19th century United States. P.T. Barnum has just lost his office job because the company he worked for has gone bankrupt. Eager to offer his wife Charity and their two daughters the life he had always promised them, Barnum embarks on a colossal project: to create a grand and amazing circus show. To do so, this inventor of show business will seek out unique performers, from dancers to bearded women, tattooed people, tall people… and all kinds of imaginative acts. His motto: to do something new, you have to do something unconventional.
