More than folklore: an identity
What do you know about the Tamborrada, the traineras, the Euskal Jaiak, or the Santo Tomás Fair? A very old language, Basque, and our own culture that is our hallmark and unites us lie behind these deep-rooted traditions.
San Sebastián Day
Our city’s biggest fiesta. On 20 January, Tamborrada, there’s not a Donostiarra who would miss this celebration full of drums, chants and friendships.
Donostia carnival
The day when tradition is mixed with the contemporary. A spectacle of light and colour that dresses Donostia up for fiesta and fantasy.
The night of San Juan
Kick off the summer by burning away all evil and celebrate the arrival of this long-awaited season. The bonfires bring a touch of magic to the city.
Semana Grande
Celebrated the week of 15 August, from Saturday to Saturday. Nighttime strolls, fireworks, concerts and lots of fun.
31 August
We commemorate the fire in the city in 1813 in the only street that survived the fire, which today carries the name 31 de Agosto.
Euskal Jaiak
Held at the beginning of September, it unites Basque culture, sport, gastronomy, folklore and traditions that are all deeply rooted in the city.
Bandera de la Concha
This prestigious competition for trainera boats is derived from the old whaling methods. A traditional sporting event that’s more than 100 years old.
Santo Tomás
On 21 December we delve back into the past through our markets and traditional costumes. All accompanied by freshly made talos and txistorra.
