The Darius Jones Trio presents its latest album, Legend of e’Boi (The Hypervigilant Eye).
Since the early 2000s, alto saxophonist Darius Jones has been building an impressive body of work, and this new release is, perhaps, his most prized achievement.
There is an austere, almost defiant beauty in Jones’s compositions—a vivid portrayal of the cruelties and ironies of modern times, as well as the fragility and melancholy that accompany them—reflecting his ability to convey very precise sounds, images, and moods.
Legend of e’Boi (The Hypervigilant Eye) is the powerful new album by composer and alto saxophonist Darius Jones. His two great artistic strengths are on full display here in a three-voice collaboration brimming with commitment alongside drummer Gerald Cleaver, his longtime collaborator, and the equally exceptional bassist Chris Lightcap. Five powerful new compositions by Jones and a striking arrangement of “No More My Lord” (the prison song recorded by Alan Lomax at Parchman Farm, Mississippi).
