Salzburg, 1938. Maria Rainer, a young novice, goes to work as a governess for the seven children of Captain Von Trapp, who has recently been widowed. Upon arriving at her new home, she discovers that the captain has imposed strict discipline in his household, leaving little room for fun. However, with her infectious joy and passion for music, Maria wins the children’s hearts, filling the house with laughter, song, and love, but she also begins to develop feelings for the captain that make her question her future at the abbey. Meanwhile, the situation in the country is becoming increasingly complicated due to the rise of Nazism and the imminent annexation of Austria to the Third Reich.
