Workshop. Chicken Crosses and scientific illustration
If you want more information , you can access the organizer detail sheet.
Inspired by the work of artist Koen Vanmechelen and his Cosmopolitan Chicken Project, which explores the crossbreeding of different chicken species, this workshop offers an experience where science and art come together.
We’ll begin by discovering what scientific illustration is and how it helps us make the invisible visible — from representing microscopic organisms to imagining extinct animals like dinosaurs.
From there, we’ll step into the world of genetics and hybrid species: what would happen if we mixed the characteristics of two different chickens? Through close observation and speculative illustration, participants will develop their own hypotheses about what the offspring of these crosses might look like.
Using templates, paints, and creative activities, we’ll experiment in a playful way with combs, beaks, feathers, and colours. Finally, thanks to the presence of real chickens at the museum, we’ll be able to compare our ideas with direct observation — contrasting initial hypotheses with reality and sharing our conclusions as a group.
A participatory activity that combines scientific knowledge, imagination, and creativity, designed to make learning fun in a unique setting. In collaboration with the Aranzadi Science Society
