(in Basque)
“Sidari” by Xake Produkzioak is the story of a couple in their thirties, Jone and Jokin, who decide to take an Interrail trip through Europe: “We know that the present shapes the future, but could the future shape the present?” They’ve been together for eight years, and each of them is at a very different stage in the relationship. While Jokin feels very comfortable with his girlfriend, Jone feels like something is missing and has serious doubts about whether Jokin is the man of her life. But does such a thing even exist?
As soon as they board the train, they run into a very unusual elderly couple. They, too, don’t have a clear destination, but they’ll make a recommendation: to visit the beautiful Sidari Channel on the island of Corfu and swim across it. It’s said that couples who do this swear eternal love to one another. After several days of traveling, Jone begins to suspect something that’s very difficult for her to understand from a purely rational standpoint: what if that couple traveling with them were actually themselves four decades from now?
