Where to park in San Sebastián

San Sebastián is a city designed on a human scale and the best way to explore it is to park your car and explore it on foot, bike or public transport.

The city has over 6,000 parking spaces in its  park and ride lots, underground garages and the city's controlled parking areas (OTA).

Park and Ride free car parks with bus connection to the city centre (P+R)

 

Parking Illunbe

Illunbe's free car park is open all year round and has 340 spaces.

How to access the Illunbe car park:

The main access to the Illunbe car park, through the Anoeta roundabout, next to the Anoeta stadium, is under construction, so it is advisable to follow these other itineraries:

• From Bilbao (AP8), Vitoria (N1) and Pamplona (N1):

On the GI-20 take exit 9B towards GI-40 / Donostia/ S. Sebastián / Miramón / Ospitaleak
And then exit 3 towards Donostia / S. Sebastián / Miramón / Ospitaleak

• From France (A8)

Exit 5 Donostia / S. Sebastian / Intxaurrondo / Altza / Ospitaleak
And then departure towards Martutene / Ospitaleak

• From Pamplona (A-15):

At the GI-41 roundabout take the Ospitraleak / Miramon exit.
And then exit 3 towards Donostia / S.Sebastián / Miramon / Ospitaleak

Shuttle bus service to the center (summer 2024):

From July 13 to September 1, 2024, there will be a “shuttle” bus service from the same parking lot to the city center (Plaza Centenario).

With a frequency of 20 minutes, the bus departure times from the parking lot will be from 11:00 a.m. to 10:20 p.m. The return bus departures from Plaza Centenario will be from 11:10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. every 20 minutes.

The occasional bus ticket costs €1.85 per person per journey.
It accepts MUGI, BAT, BARIK, SanseCard and BasqueCard reductions. It is also possible to obtain a QR or EMV digital ticket.

Connection with public transport (year-round):

• Line 28 (10' walk to nearest bus stop: Begiristain I) . Frequency: Weekdays (5-8 min.) Saturdays (7-9 min.). Holidays (8-11 min.)
• Line 17 (20’ walk to nearest bus stop: Begiristain I). Frequency: Weekdays (10 min.). Saturdays (15 min.). Holidays (20 min.)

 

Parking Igara

Like the Miramón car park, the Igara car park is also free and is open year-round. It has 730 spaces and a bus stop to make it easier to get to the centre of Donostia.

Connections with public transport:

• Lines 5 and 25. At the Tolosa 111 stop, a 5-minute walk away.

 

Parking Unibertsitatea (EHU/UPV)

Car park located next to the EHU /UPV Carlos Santamaría library, in Pº de Berio. It has 200 spaces. Free of charge. You have to take a free ticket and put it visible on the vehicle. Maximum stay 24 hours. Only active from 8 July to 25 August 2024. (Motorhomes are not allowed. The motorhome car park is a little further on in the same Pº de Berio).

Parking Ficoba (Irun)

If you’re coming from France, an easy way to get to Donostia is to leave your car in the Ficoba free (08:00 - 22:00) car park in Irun. Then take a train,(euskotren) which runs every 30 minutes, to the centre of San Sebastian (35 minutes).

Connections with public transport:

• Euskotren – topo (3’ walk to nearest stop: Irún Ficoba). Frecuency: Every 30 minutes.

Underground car parks

There are underground car parks throughout the city where you can also park your car. Like in the blue zones, the underground car parks also have different rates. The car parks closest to the centre or special zone car parks are the most expensive (1 hour: €2.60). The red zone car parks have a slightly lower price (1 hour: €2.20) and the green zone car parks are the cheapest.  (1 hour: €1.95)

There is also an app called "Donostia Transport" in San Sebastián that offers real-time information on the best parking option in your location.

OTA Blue Zone

The blue zone is another parking option in Donostia. The Antiguo, Amara, Loiola and Gros neighbourhoods have OTA zones where you can park your car. The blue zones, which requirement payment, have a limited time: there are 1.5-hour, 3-hour, 5-hour and even 9-hour zones. To park you need to buy a ticket from one of the machines; once the time you purchased has run out, you are required move the car and buy another ticket. You can consult the maximum stay per zone on the map.

The rates for parking vary according to the zone; the ones closest to the centre are more expensive (90 minutes: €2.87), and this is the maximum amount of time you can park.

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday: from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 8:00 p.m.
• Saturday: from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 9:00 p.m.
• Sunday: You can park for free in Donostia. Depending on the zone, the OTA applies from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The blue zones have different schedules depending on the day; we recommend checking the schedule on the OTA machines when you buy your ticket.

Parking for motorhomes

 Donostia / San Sebastián has three overnight areas for motorhomes, one paid at the Berio car park and two free of charge at Illunbe. There are also two campsites: Wecamp and Igara.

Berio car park

In the university area of Ibaeta EHU / UPV, motorhomes will find a parking area for 44 vehicles: the Berio car park.

From the Berio motorhome area, you can reach the centre in just 30 minutes with a pleasant walk. There is also a cycle lane connecting the area with the neighbourhoods and the centre of San Sebastian. Those who prefer to use public transport can use bus lines 5, 25, 33 and 45 at the stop located on Avenida de Tolosa, "Unibertsitatea" stop.

RECOVERY OF VEHICLES FROM THE MUNICIPAL POUND

The municipal tow truck is authorised to remove a vehicle and take it to the municipal pound in the event of illegal parking, security concerns or the commitment of any other type of infraction (lack of documentation, drink driving, judicial order, traffic accidents, incorrect documentation etc.)

In general, it is possible to go to the pound directly and get the vehicle back on the spot, after having paid the appropriate fee (it is possible to pay in cash or by card). In some circumstances, depending on the infraction that has been committed, it is necessary to go to the Guardia Municipal [municipal police] first to ask them for permission to collect the vehicle.
