Pagoeta
The silence of the Beech Trees
The ancient beech trees that carpet the Pagoeta summits gave their name to this natural park you can enter via Aia, between Orio and Zarautz. The Iturran homestead, a beautiful 14th century building made entirely out of oak, marks the park’s entrance and you’ll find a botanical garden there with 5000 plant species from different corners of the globe. It is soothing to stroll right to the end of the valley, enjoying the silence of these Atlantic woods, splashed with beech, ash, maple and oak trees, until you reach the ironworks and the mills at Agorregi, a completely restored 18th century hydraulic facility
