Anabel Alonso stars in the play *La mujer rota* (*The Broken Woman*), one of Simone de Beauvoir’s most significant works. Although conceived as a narrative, its structure transforms the monologue into an intense theatrical experience, centered on a female voice that lays bare her truth with raw honesty, without embellishment or compromise.
New Year’s Eve. Murielle is at home, alone. The noise from the street and the shouts of her neighbors celebrating keep her from falling asleep. In this sleepless vigil, her memories clash with a bleak present and an even less promising future. What she has lost, what has been taken from her, failure, and loneliness have left her sidelined, wandering in a limbo where she still struggles between survival and death. Her true tragedy—which is also a comedy—has shattered her self-esteem as a woman, as a wife, as a mother, and as a daughter.
