The show Mugarri by Jokai Produkzioak, which centers on theater and music, offers two perspectives, two stories, and a single setting: the Ibardin border.
The first perspective is that of María, a shepherdess; she lives in a cabin high on Ibardin, where her sheep graze. Her stories recount experiences from turbulent years marked by political events: the Civil War, the postwar period, and World War II. The second perspective is that of Kontxi, María’s daughter, who will transform the cabin into an inn. Her experiences revolve around the issues facing the border today: migration and the political decisions that affect the daily lives of those living along the border.
Theater and roots music are the pillars upon which the show revolves. It is a cross-border project, combining elements of traditional music—with the txalaparta at its center—with other instruments: violin, cello, guitar, and vocals. Based on stories that unfold.
