Millán-Astray, founder of the Legion, tells us his story, which is that of the Glory of Spain. On October 12, 1936, Columbus Day, that damn Unamuno came to annoy him. “You will win, but you will not convince,” says the old codger… How can you not laugh at such nonsense?
Singing Under the Bullets is a necrophilic cabaret, a grotesque dark comedy, a monologue in which Millán-Astray, in his delirium of glorifying violence and terrifying requiems that applaud the death of intelligence, speaks to the audience in the present tense with a discourse that is terribly familiar to today’s audience.
This play is a distorted mirror of Madrid’s Callejón del Gato, in which today’s society can recognize the path that the rise of unreason, hate speech, and the megalomania of saviors of the fatherland is leading us down.
