Malandain Ballet Biarritz & Avignon Ballet Opera
With this second program, Martin Harriague invites us to an intimate and sacred ceremony through a choral work performed by 14 dancers from the Avignon Opera Ballet. To make the dance as much a feeling as it is a sight to behold, he has composed a sculpted and sensitive piece titled Awen.
Created for the chapel of the Palace of the Popes, Awen’s work evokes the memory of those who shape us, from the grandest to the most intimate. The music The Sacred Veil, by American composer Eric Whitacre, shines in this twelve-movement work that explores love, loss, and the endurance of the bond beyond absence. Filled with a strange and luminous intensity, breath and gesture are deeply embodied here, uniting the flesh of the voices with that of the bodies.
