The year’s most cosmopolitan event will return to San Sebastian from 18 to 26 September
Every September, the national and international film industry gathers in Donostia/San Sebastián for the year’s most cosmopolitan event: the Zinemaldia, or San Sebastian International Film Festival, one of Europe’s most important film events, alongside the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.

74th edition
Argentinian actor Ricardo Darín stars on the poster for this year’s edition, which will take place from 18 to 26 September. Stars including Brad Pitt, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Rami Malek, Orlando Bloom, Ricardo Darín and Jeremy Irons will attend the San Sebastian International Film Festival this year. They will be joined by Werner Herzog and Naomi Watts, who will receive the 2026 Donostia Awards in recognition of their outstanding careers in cinema. The 74th edition is expected to be full of surprises and excitement, and it will be the last directed by José Luis Rebordinos before he steps down upon his retirement in December 2026.
As every September, Donostia/San Sebastián will warmly welcome a wide range of guests from the international film industry: actors and actresses, directors, screenwriters, journalists… They will enjoy the city while mingling with local residents and film lovers who travel here from all over the world.

Beyond the glamour of the stars, Zinemaldia has always stood out for its cinematic quality and diverse programme. The 74th edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival will feature 263 titles from 47 countries. The programme is organised into seven competitive sections —Official Selection, New Directors, Horizontes Latinos, Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, Perlak, Culinary Zinema and Nest— and six non-competitive sections: Made in Spain, Zinemira, Velodrome, Children’s Cinema, Retrospective and Klasikoak.

The titles selected for the 74th edition have been announced progressively throughout the summer months. Zinemaldia’s Official Selection will once again bring together some of the most eagerly awaited films in international cinema. Competing for the Festival’s top award —the Golden Shell— will be new works by filmmakers such as Nicole Garcia, Pablo Larraín, Mike Leigh, Hans Petter Moland, Benjamín Naishtat and Yeşim Ustaoğlu, alongside Maha Harada’s debut feature and Spanish films by Roberto Bueso, Mikel Gurrea and Javier Ruiz Caldera, among other titles selected for competition.
Ticket sales
General ticket sales will begin on Sunday, 13 September at 9:00 a.m. and will be released on a staggered, day-by-day basis, both online and at the box office. General admission tickets cost €8.75, while galas and the Donostia Awards have specific ticket prices.
