‘Luis Mariano’ Orchestra + Choir: The Barber of Seville
If you want more information , you can access the organizer detail sheet.
There are operas that never fail to delight. It doesn’t matter when, where, or to whom you present them. *The Barber of Seville* is one of them. A true crowd-pleaser, composed by Gioachino Rossini, it has continued to captivate stages and audiences around the world ever since its premiere in 1816.
Based on Beaumarchais’s comedy, this comic opera introduces us to one of the most charismatic characters in the entire history of opera: Figaro. Barber, jack-of-all-trades, professional fixer of other people’s problems, and the star of some of the most famous (and hummed) scenes in the operatic repertoire. Surrounding him is a story of love, disguises, deceit, jealousy, and absurd situations that unfold at a breakneck pace.
Rossini’s music is pure ingenuity. Catchy melodies, signature crescendos, virtuosic vocal writing, and an orchestra that doesn’t merely accompany: it comments, provokes, and laughs along with the characters. Everything is in the service of theater, humor, and enjoyment. There’s no room for boredom here; just when things seem to be calming down… Rossini steps on the gas.
The Barber of Seville is, moreover, a perfect opera for both music lovers and those approaching the genre for the first time. It is fun, lively, direct, and tremendously relevant in its portrayal of human relationships, the power of money, cunning in the face of authority, and the chaos that love causes when it walks through the door unannounced.
On May 9 and 10, this gem of bel canto will come to the Amaia Cultural Center, offering two performances that are perfect for letting yourself be swept away by one of the most beloved and frequently performed operas of all time. Two chances to laugh, have fun, and leave the theater with a smile (and probably humming “Largo al factotum”).
