“Donostia Green Destination” was created as a symbol to bring together, give visibility to, and promote all initiatives related to environmental, social, and cultural sustainability carried out in the city.
The goal is to promote a more sustainable city and tourism, and to encourage visitors to experience the city in a sustainable and respectful way, by providing them with a variety of plans, activities, initiatives, and practical advice.
This initiative also includes good practices and environmental programmes from public administrations, as well as internationally recognised certifications.
The “Donostia Green Destination” symbol or logo helps identify all the sustainable places, actions, services, infrastructures, and plans that you can find on our website.

Through strict criteria focused on the main environmental impacts of services, the EU Ecolabel ensures that tourist accommodations bearing this label rank among the best on the market in terms of environmental performance.

This certification is based on the principles of sustainability and, in addition to environmental criteria, it also includes economic and socio-cultural aspects related to the local community where the hotel is located.

The European EMAS Regulation (“Eco-Management and Audit Scheme”) is an environmental management and audit scheme applicable to any company within the European Union. This regulation sets out a series of good practices and specific indicators for the tourism sector.
The ISO 14001 certification – Environmental Management Systems (EMS) – is an international standard based on the PDCA cycle (Plan – Do – Check – Act). Its aim is to protect the environment through the management of environmental risks associated with the activity carried out.
The ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems standard is an energy efficiency certification that ensures the existence of an optimised system for the proper use of energy.

Klima DSS 2050: San Sebastián has developed a local climate change strategy to connect citizens with this major challenge and tackle it collectively, while also taking the opportunity to address other urban environmental and social issues.
Urban Klima 2050: An initiative considered the largest climate action project in the Basque Country for the coming years. The consortium of companies carrying out this major project brings together more than 20 organisations working in a coordinated way to achieve the set goals.
