Puio Park

This park on the hill of the same name is unfamiliar even to the locals of San Sebastián. Nevertheless, it is a privileged lookout point with magnificent views of the city (Amara, Centre, Old Town…) and the sea.

This park is located on the hill of the same name, with its summit offering an unbeatable viewpoint that allows for views of the Igeldo, Ulia, and Urgull mountains, framed by the blue of the sea. Despite its relatively small size, the diversity of ecosystems in this area is remarkable. The mixed deciduous forest with oaks, chestnuts, and hazels on the eastern slope stands out, and, surrounded by an understory of shrubs, provides shelter for the various species inhabiting the park. Walking along the labyrinthine paths of their characteristic reddish color allows one to admire a succession of large trees, consisting of both native species and exotic specimens such as cedars, plane trees, pines, or mimosas.

Crowning the hill is the building known as Villa Puio, the residence of a religious order, located where a fort once stood during the Carlist Wars, which in turn was built by adapting the walls of a previous farmhouse, also called Puyo.
